Service area

Bookkeeping in Orange County, California

Orange County is the one service area outside Texas. Kathryn works with clients there because remote bookkeeping does not care about the state line, though California payroll certainly does.

Local context

Bookkeeping for Orange County Businesses

The economy is diversified and dense: corporate headquarters and professional services concentrated around Irvine, medical devices and biotech, technology and software, finance and real estate, higher education, and a large tourism and hospitality sector along the coast and around the theme parks.

California brings payroll and worker-classification rules that are stricter than Texas, along with high rents and licensing across multiple cities. Hospitality, restaurant and coastal retail revenue also swings hard on the tourist season. The bookkeeping has to be set up for that from the start rather than adjusted for it later.

County seat Santa Ana. Also serving Anaheim, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach.

How it works

Working Remotely

The practice is remote by design. Distance has not decided anything for years.

Bank feeds

Transactions arrive automatically, so nothing depends on anyone collecting paper.

Shared documents

Receipts and statements go to one place you can reach from a phone.

Monthly reporting

Statements delivered on a fixed schedule rather than when there is time.

Scheduled calls

A conversation about the numbers whenever you want one, not just at year end.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

You are in Texas. Can you do California books?

Yes. Bookkeeping and reporting are not state-restricted work, and the practice has been remote from the start. Where California rules genuinely differ, particularly on payroll and worker classification, Kathryn will say so and point you to someone licensed in the state rather than guessing.

What about the time difference?

Office hours are 3pm to 10pm Central, which is 1pm to 8pm Pacific. That covers most of a California working day, and it is one of the reasons the hours are set where they are.
